The Foretelling, in Geneses,
by Prophet Jacob of Prophet Mohammeds Mission

In Geneses, Chapter 49 of the Arabic version of the Torah, printed in Paris in 1645 C.E.

And the one printed in London in 1657 C.E., the following verses are mentioned:

49:1 And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may

tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

49:2 Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father.

49:10  The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, or a lawgiver from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs comes; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

It is evident that the text, especially verse 10 speaks of the appearance of a divinely sent

figure towards the end of time.  There seems to be a consensus among all Torah commentators on such an interpretation, even though they disagree on pinpointing the circumstances verse 10 describes.

What is meant by "sceptre" is the mace, symbol of power, although, in some Arabic translations, the word "sceptre" was substituted by "mace".

The phrase "or a lawgiver from between his feet" refers to the interpreter of the Law, i.e. the Torah scholar who is governed by and in harmony with it.

In the phrase "until he to whom it belongs comes, there may be a reference to the would be divinely sent  person.

In the following pages an effort has been made to discuss the attempt, by both Jewish and Christian scholars who embraced Islam, to study this prophecy and apply it to Prophet Mohammad.
